Problems Using Downloadable Browsers with Custom Reports in DVMAX 7.012

Applies to Versions:  DVMAX 7.012r6 and prior

Operating Systems:  Windows Only

If you are using a Windows based workstation with any downloadable browser installed ie. (Firefox, Chrome), there is a known issue you will experience when trying to execute a custom report.  After double-clicking on the custom report of your choice, the General Management window will briefly flicker and return to normal without opening your browser to generate the report.

While upgrading to a later version of DVMAX does correct this problem, you can also get limited relief if you use ONLY Internet Explorer for generating custom reports.  Here are the steps to keep in mind:

Step 1 – Uninstall ANY other internet browser program (Google Chrome, Firefox, etc) aside from Internet Explorer.

  • Access the Windows Control Panel:
    • Windows 7:  Click the Windows/Start button at the bottom left portion of the screen and choose Control Panel.
    • Windows 8:  Right-Click the bottom left corner of the screen (where the Start Menu would normally be) and choose Control Panel.
  • Locate and click Programs and Features.
  • Uninstall any Browsers that are not Internet Explorer (ie. Firefox or Chrome)

Step 2 – Within the Windows Control Panel, set Internet Explorer as the default browser for all applicable files.

  • Locate and click Default Programs.
  • Click Set your default programs.
  • Click Internet Explorer in the Programs list to the left to select it.
  • Click Set this program as default.

Alternate Solution

If you prefer to keep a downloaded browser installed and do not want to use Internet Explorer, you will need to launch the reports from your browser instead of directly within DVMAX/General Management. You can do this by copying one of the following links into your web browser and adding it to your bookmarks/favorites.  These links require you to identify the IP address and Port for your DVMAX Server application as follows:

IP:  This is referring to the IP address of the computer that is running your DVMAX Server application.

Port:  The port can be obtained by going into System Constants; the “User Settings” tab. In the lower left under Web, DVMAX will list the port number.
