Web Server or Appointment Book does not publish after Daily Backup

Versions Affected: 7.6r2 through 8.5
Operating System: Macintosh Only

When DVMAX Server runs a backup, all processes are halted; this is intentional.  Following the backup, processes are supposed to resume.  Due to a security constraint on Mac OSX with the default Web Port (usually 7500 or 7501) the HTTP Server is not resuming which results in the appointment book and other web services not being accessible.

By changing the Web Port to “1000” (1024 or lower), the HTTP Server can bypass the Mac OSX Security issue, and resume following a backup.  The following steps will detail how to make this change.

These steps must be performed through DVMAX Client BUT DVMAX Server will have to be quit/relaunched immediately following the change so there will be very brief downtime for this fix.

  1. From within DVMAX Client, access the Data Editor (Section -> Shift+System Constants -> Functions Tab -> Data Editor)
    1. Navigate to the “prefs_main” table
    2. Select “ALL” to bring up all prefs_main records
    3. Highlight the record with “GLOBAL” in the identifier
    4. Select “Subset” so that the “GLOBAL” record is the only visible record.
    5. Scroll over to the “WebPortNumber” column and manually enter “1000” into the field in place of the default port number (most commonly 7500 or 7501).
    6. Exit completely out of the data editor.
  2. Quit DVMAX Server Application, wait 30 seconds, and relaunch.

Upon relaunch you may get a “4DHelperTool” prompt which will require authentication; more specifically, it will ask for the administrator credentials (the operating system administrator credentials; not DVMAX).

  3. Once DVMAX Server is back up and running, navigate to the HTTP Server tab on the DVMAX Server administration window to verify that the “HTTP port” field did update properly.
