Configuring Web Access outside the local network/office

To complete this step, you will need access to your router, and must have an understanding of port forwarding. If you do not have the ability to execute these steps, you will need the assitance of a qualified network/IT specialist for assistance. Since a network and the hardware used is unique to every site, and running your business relies on it's availabilty, DVMAX Support cannot assist in configuring your router.

You will need to know:

  1. The static IP address of your DVMAX Server computer.
  2. The web server port that is being used (which was set in the first step, typically port 7501).

Log into your router's control panel and set up a port forward to allow TCP access on port 7501 - forward to your Server's IP.

Second, you will need to make your EXTERNAL Wide Area Network (WAN) IP a Static IP Address. You can accomplish this in one of two ways:

  • Pay a fee to your internet provider for an External (WAN) Static IP for your office.
  • Use a service such as DynDns.org that will allow you to make up your own Static IP. It will require you to install it's software on your server.

Once these steps are completed, your DVMAX Web features will be available over the Internet!

Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN)

This is the most secure, easiest, and recommended method for remote access but it REQUIRES the assistance of your IT. Using a VPN, you can connect your remote tablet/computer to the same network within the office.

Consult with your IT to discuss how to set up a VPN and use it.
