Imaging configuration for DVMAX on Mac OS - UPDATED

Operating Systems: Mac OS 10.12 and higher
Applies to Versions: DVMAX v8.6 and higher

 NOTE: DVMAX Server v8.6, v8.6.3, and v8.7 are not compatible with Mac OS 10.13, however, if you start installing DVMAX Client on Mac 10.13 workstations, you will need to follow these steps to edit your current imaging configuration.


(warning) (warning)  NOTE: SMB file sharing has restrictions on the naming convention of files. If you are changing your current setup please reach out to Tech Support at 800-950-5455 before making any configuration changes. We will review your data to determine if it is necessary to schedule an appointment to make changes to the names of your images. 

Configure Folder Permissions to share the DVMAX Images Folder 

This step should be performed by your IT technician and step takes place on your DVMAX Server computer.

Note: This document is applicable to servers running Mac OSX ONLY, Mac OSX Server is not covered by this document.

  1. Go to the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Sharing folder icon.
  3. Place a check in front of File Sharing.
    A window will appear with two choices. On the left side will be folders that are currently shared, and the right side will show who has access to them.
  4. On the right side click the '+' icon to add a shared folder.
  5. Navigate to your images folder, typically in Macintosh HD::DVMAXDatabaseFiles::DVMAXImagesFolder and select it.
  6. Highlight your shared folder in the window and change 'Everyone' to 'Read & Write' access for this shared folder.
  7. Click the Options button on the bottom right.
  8. Place a check in Share files and folders using SMB

    NOTE: If you only have Macintosh computers in your network, then you can move onto the next section. Otherwise follow the steps below for enabling Windows & Macintosh file sharing:
  9. In the lower window, place a check in the 'On' column for the user listed, and enter a password.
    NOTE: This username and password listed is for Windows computers accessing the shared Images folder.

Mounting The Share on Macintosh Workstations

This step should be performed by your IT technician and step takes place on your DVMAX Client computer.

Note: Insure that no programs are running and that Personal File Sharing is enabled. The steps below must be repeated on each workstation in the practice (not the server).
 
1. Click the Go menu at the top of the screen.
2. Click Connect to Server.
3. Enter the IP address of your DVMAX Server (or the workstation on which the DVMAX Images folder is located) & click the connect button.

4. When prompted - choose Registered User.
5. Enter the Administrator username and password for the Server & place a check in the Remember password in keychain option.
6. Click the Connect button & a list of shares will appear.
7. Locate the DVMaxImages Mount, select it and click the OK button.
8. The DVMaxImages Mount should now be on your desktop. It will remain connected unless the workstation loses its connection to the server or a user disconnects the share.
9. If you would like the share to automatically connect after logging in, go into
System Preferences, and click on the Users & Groups icon. Next, click on your user account, click the Login Items button, and click the "+" sign on the lower left. Then, click on the DVMaxImages Mount and click Add. The DVMaxImages Mount should now appear under the list of items that will open automatically when you log in.

DVMAX Settings

Note: The DVMAX Administrator password is required for this step.
Note: The following steps needs to be done on one DVMAX Client workstation only.
 
1. Start DVMAX Client from a workstation that has the "DVMaxImages" visible on the desktop from the previous steps.
2. Login as the Administrator within DVMAX 
3. Click the Section menu and choose the System Constants option.
4. Click the User Settings tab.
5. Click the Set button located to the right of the Path to Images field.
6. Navigate to the Desktop, select the DVMaxImages folder and click the Choose button.
7. Click the OK button on the screen.
NOTE: All other workstations must quit & relaunch DVMAX Client for this change to take effect.


File Naming 

When attaching files, the following characters cannot be used in the file name:

  • / (slash)
  • \ (backslash)
  • ?
  • %
  • *
  • :
  • |
  • "
  • <
  • >
  • . (as part of the file name - should be used at the end of the file name, prior to the file type - ex .pdf)
  • space

Users must refrain from attaching images with any of these characters to allow for proper sharing of the files.
