It can be useful to check a computer's uptime when there are reports of decreased performance.

To check how long a Windows server has been online for:

  • Go to "Start" -> "Run".
  • Write "CMD" and press on "Enter" key.
  • Write the command "net statistics server" and press on "Enter" key.
The uptime will be listed in the beginning of the report, for example:
Statistics since 1/10/2012 11:29 PM
This states the server has been online since that date/time.

To check how long a Macintosh computer has been online for:

  • Go to Spotlight, type Terminal and open the Terminal application.
  • Type "uptime" and press Enter.

If a server has been online for more than 30 days and the performance has gradually decreased, rebooting the Windows server might help.
