Datacheck - Checking the integrity of your DVMAX datafile

Applies to Versions:  7.5 and higher


Checking your datafile for issues can assist in identifying problems related to database performance. It is also useful to check the integrity of the datafile when unexpected errors occur for the end user while using DVMAX.


Sometimes checking a datafile routinely (once or twice a year) can help in catching a problem before it becomes more serious - but almost always these types of catastrophes have an initial cause unrelated to normal use of the database. Power failures, Server crashes, hardware failures, etc. The best way to ensure your database's integrity is to have a solid foundation. Keeping your hardware/server routinely serviced and having a working battery backup will put you in a good position to prevent datafile issues.

Note: This document should only be followed if you were instructed to use it from a DVMAX representative.



Step 1 - Quit DVMAX on all computers

To scan your datafile, the database must not be in use, and the DVMAX program must be quit.

Log off DVMAX Client on all workstations and then Quit the DVMAX Server application.
The rest of this document's steps will occur on the Server computer.



Step 2 - Launch the Maintenance & Security Center (MSC) on DVMAX Server

Double click the Start DVMAX Server icon while holding down the alt/option key on your keyboard.

A window will pop up with 5 choices.  Choose the last option, which reads, Open the Maintenance & Security Center



Step 3 - Scan & Verify your DVMAX Data

When the MSC window opens, you will see 8 icons down the left pane. Click the 3rd icon, which looks like a magnifying glass titled Verify

Click the first button, titled Verify the records and the indexes

This process will take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of your data.

Once it is finished, you will see the results of the scan.  If you have three green check marks, your data is clean. You can quit Maintenance & Security Center by clicking the red X in the upper left corner of a Mac, or upper right corner of a Windows PC.  You will see a prompt confirming that the application will quit.  Click OK.    Relaunch DVMAX Server without holding the alt/option key to launch the DVMAX Server program knowing your data is in good condition.

If you have any red X marks, this signifies that the data has some sort of damage. This damage can most often be repaired by a DVMAX support Technician. Please stop at this point and call DVMAX at 800-950-5455.
