Best Practices for Appointment Scheduler Setup

Applies to: DVMAX v7.6 and higher

Purpose: DVMAX v7.6 introduced the capability of a web-capable appointment scheduler. This document outlines our best practice recommendations for optimal performance of the appointment scheduler.

Windows Workstations

In our most recent versions of DVMAX, you will see the best performance of the scheduler when using the internal scheduler. This means the scheduler will open within DVMAX. To change this setting:

  • From the File pull-down, choose Preferences
  • Under Assorted Prefs, locate the Appointment Scheduler / Boarding: section near the bottom of the window
  • Set the Open With: setting to Internal
  • This is a workstation specific setting and will need to be set on all DVMAX terminals. A restart of the application is not necessary.

Macintosh Workstations

On Macintosh workstations, you will see the best performance of the scheduler when using Chrome. We also recommend using one browser for the scheduler and a different browser for general use at the hospital. To change this setting:

  • From the File pull-down, choose Preferences
  • Under Assorted Prefs, locate the Appointment Scheduler / Boarding: section near the bottom of the window
  • Set the Open With: setting to Chrome (Note: Ensure Chrome is installed on the workstation).
    • (star) This means Firefox or Safari should be your primary browser for other Internet browsing at the hospital.
  • This is a workstation specific setting and will need to be set on all DVMAX terminals. A restart of the application is not necessary.

Browser Settings

We recommend referring to our Optimal Settings for DVMAX on Macintosh document to ensure browser settings are properly configured.

(warning) NOTE: For proper functioning of the appointment scheduler, you should ensure the appointment scheduler is always the "active" tab in your browser window. Clicking the DVMAX icon in the upper left-hand corner of the browser window will bring you back to the DVMAX Client application while leaving the appointment scheduler the active tab.
