Configure Windows Feature: Data Execution Prevention (DEP)

Applies to: DVMAX version 7.0.12r6 and lower only. Users on DVMAX versions 7.5 and higher do not need to change default settings.

Windows Feature "Data Execution Prevention" will terminate/crash DVMAX upon startup if it is not configured correctly. We suggest that you set Data Execution Prevention to monitor Windows processes ONLY, instead of ALL applications.

1. Right click My Computer or Computer (may be located in the 'Start' menu)
2. Select Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab (Windows XP) or Advanced System Settings link (Vista, 7 and higher)
4. In the Performance section, click the Settings button.
5. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
6. Select Turn on DEP for essential Windows program and services only.
You must reboot your computer for this change to take effect.

Date Format

Your date format must be in mm/dd/yy format and be consistent across all computers that access DVMAX in any shape or form. This includes the Server, workstations, and any external integrations (lab equipment, etc.) that talk to DVMAX.

Network Setup

While DVMAX can work on both wireless and wired connections, the DVMAX Server MUST be wired with an ethernet cable.
Workstations can be configured wirelessly, but connectivity and performance can vary due to environmental limitations (brick walls, poor signal, occasional interference). The best performance can be achieved with wiring all connections via Ethernet.

Server Reboot

We recommend a restart of the server computer every 30 days. This can be done in conjunction with any necessary updates to the server that require a restart. DVMAXServer.exe can be added to your startup items but should never be added as a task in the windows task scheduler.

Always check our Certification Matrix for DVMAX Practice Product Line document before upgrading your Server Operating System.

Client Application Relaunch

We recommend a daily relaunch of the DVMAX client application on each workstation.
