Installing DVMAX Client

Preparation: Remove Old Programs

If you have NOT used DVMAX before on this station, skip to Step 1, otherwise follow these preparation steps:

Macintosh:

  • If you have used the spell check in DVMAX on this workstation and have learned words, you'll need to move the dictionary file to the desktop before preceding. If you do not learn words, you can move on to the next step.
    • Click on the Finder
    • Hold down the Option Key
    • Click on the Go pull-down, choose Library
    • In the Application Support folder, locate the DVMAX or DVMAX Client folder
    • Locate the .dic file (often named person69632.dic)
    • Move this file to the desktop
  • Browse to your Applications folder
  • Locate the DVMAXProgramFiles7 or DVMAXProgramFiles75 or DVMAXPractice folder and place it into the Trash, then move onto Step 1.


Windows:

  • If you have used the spell check in DVMAX on this workstation and have learned words, you'll need to move the dictionary file to the desktop before preceding. If you do not learn words, you can move on to the next step.
    • Locate the .dic file (often named person69632.dic). The typical path is C://Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/DVMAX
    • Move this file to the desktop
  • Click Start -> Control Panel
  • Open Add/Remove Programs, or Programs and Features (then choose Uninistall)
  • Locate DVMAX and Uninistall it.
  • Verify no residual files exist:
  • Navigate to C:/Program Files (x86)/
  • Locate the DVMAXProgramFiles7 or DVMAXProgramFiles75 or DVMAXPractice folder and delete it, then move onto Step 1.


Step 1: Download Installer.

If downloading the installer, you can request a link to the installer by contacting DVMAX Technical Support at 800-950-5455
Note: Mac customers will need to follow these steps to download and open the installer - Allow Apps from Anywhere on Mac OSX GateKeeper

Step 2: Install DVMAX Client

Launch the installer.
If an any error occurs when the installer is preparing to launch, please right click the Installer and choose Run as Administrator.
Proceed through the install wizard.
When prompted with options of what to install, choose DVMAX Client and click Next.

Windows Only:

NOTE: DVMAX v8.8.6 and higher does not require PDFCreator to be installed. Instead, you must have Microsoft Print to PDF, which is usually a standard application on your Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016/2019 machines.

If the PDFCreator application has not been installed, install this application now.

Step 3: Configure Computer for Optimal Settings for DVMAX

Click the appropriate link below to configure your computer to run optimally with DVMAX

Windows: Optimal Settings for DVMAX on Windows
Macintosh:  Optimal Settings for DVMAX on Macintosh


Step 4: Reboot Computer for all changes to take effect

Step 5: Launch DVMAX Client

If it gives an error, click Continue, then choose the DVMAX option that is listed in the"TCP/IP" or "Available" Tab of the next window.

NOTE:

v8.8 & above does not automatically send a DVMAX shortcut to your desktop. To create:

Mac OS:

  1. Click on the Finder icon at the bottom left of the screen (the leftmost icon in the Dock).
  2. Go into the DVMAX Practice folder located in Applications, open DVMAX client folder and Right-click on the DVMAX Application and select Make Alias.
  3. Click enter and drag the DVMAX Client alias to your desktop.

Windows OS:

  1. Select the File Explorer icon on your task bar (icon that looks like a folder)
  2. From the File Explorer window that opens, locate OSDisk (C:) from This PC, locate & open DVMAX Practice folder and then open DVMAX Client folder.
  3. Right-click on the DVMAX Client app and select Send to Desktop

Step 6: Move the Dictionary file back

If you moved the .dic file, you'll need to move it back now.

Macintosh

  • Click on the Finder
  • Hold down the Option Key
  • Click on the Go pull-down, choose Library (If you don't see the Library folder, hold down the Option key)
  • In the Application Support folder, locate the DVMAX or DVMAX Client folder
  • Move the .dic file from the desktop to this folder

Windows

  • Open the DVMAX folder - The typical path is C://Users/Administrator/AppData/Roaming/DVMAX
  • Move the .dic file from the desktop to this folder
