Upgrade Process by Version

To prepare for your upgrade to the latest version of DVMAX, determine your current version and follow the steps outlined below.

Your current version can be found by choosing "About DVMAX" from the DVMAX or help pull-down menu in DVMAX.

If you are using Remote Processing or MPA, please call Tech Support (800-950-5455) to discuss specific instructions on doing this upgrade.


Your version is: DVMAX v7.6 to v8.7.x
You are able to upgrade to v8.8 (Open beta) immediately!

  1. Review System Requirements before proceeding: System Requirements for the Current DVMAX Release (Support for Mac OSX 10.6.8, 10.10.x, 10.11.x, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 has ended!)
  2. Perform our pre-install checklist - Pre-Install Checklist for Upgrading to DVMAX v8.8
  3. Contact DVMAX Technical Support at 800-950-5455 for a link to the installer
  4. Follow these instructions for performing the upgrade:

Your version is: DVMAX v7.5 to 7.5.2

  • View the new Appointment Scheduler videos - If you are upgrading from v7.5 or below we strongly recommend you review these videos with your staff. Along with the many new features of the appointment module in DVMAX v8, there are a few changes that staff members will need to be aware of in advance. We want to make sure that you and your staff understand the new Appointment Scheduler and all of its features BEFORE updating to DVMAX v8.8 - http://www.dvmax.com/Feature_ApptSched.html
  • Perform our pre-install checklist - Pre-Install Checklist for Upgrading to DVMAX v8.8
  • Review System Requirements: System Requirements for the Current DVMAX Release
  • Submit the online upgrade form using the link - http://dvmax.com/V8Upgradeform.html (This form is only for v7.5 Users) 
  • The instructions for installation and the link to the installer will be emailed after the online form is submitted. 


Your version is: DVMAX v7.0.12r4 to v7.0.12r6

  • Complete the Upgrade Questionnaire and return it to: DVMAXUpgrades@idexx.com
  • Our upgrades department will review the questionnaire and contact you to discuss hardware changes that need to be made to meet new system requirements, or to schedule the upgrade.

Your version is: DVMAX v7.0.x to v7.0.12.r3

  1. Update your DVMAX to the last legacy version first. 
    1. If you're on version 7.0.10 or lower:
      1. Contact DVMAX Technical Support at 800-950-5455 for a link to the installer
      2. Installing DVMAX 7.0.12r6 Server 
      3. Installing DVMAX Client
    2. If you're currently on version 7.0.11 - 7.0.12r3:   
      1. Contact DVMAX Technical Support at 800-950-5455 for a link to the installer
      2. Patching DVMAX 7.0.12r6 Server
      3. Installing DVMAX Client
  2. Complete the Upgrade Questionnaire and return it to:  DVMAXUpgrades@idexx.com
  3. Our upgrades department will review the questionnaire and contact you to discuss hardware changes that need to be made to meet new system requirements, or to schedule the upgrade.

Your version is:  DVMAX v6.0 or below
