Eliminating the Penny in Canada

Eliminating the Penny in Canada

In the Fall of 2012, the Canadian Goverment will cease distribution of the penny.

Transactions will still be calculated to the penny but if the client is paying with cash the change will be provided to the nearest 5 or 10 cents.

A description of how this affects the consumer and business can be found here:
http://www.budget.gc.ca/2012/themes/theme2-eng.html

Also, a number of FAQ were answered here:
http://www.retailcouncil.org/advocacy/national/penny-faq.asp

DVMAX, like all many point of sale systems, will continue to calculate the transactions to the penny. Please consult the website above for an explanation.
