Performing a Backup on a Single-User Workstation
Applies to: DVMAX v7.0.12 and higher
Purpose: The single user version of DVMAX does not have a built-in automatic backup. A backup of the data is done by saving a copy of the datafile on an external device, such as an external hard drive or flash drive. The steps below will outline the steps to take for this process.
*Single User refers to a DVMAX configuration that does not utilize a server workstation. If you have a server workstation, refer to the information in the following document:
Take a copy of the datafile
- Quit out of DVMAX on the workstation. **This is necessary to avoid any potential data loss.
- Navigate to the DVMAX Datafile folder
- Typical Path for Windows - C:/DVMAXDatabaseFiles/DVMAXDataFolder
- Typical Path Macintosh - Macintosh HD:Documents:DVMAXDatabaseFiles:DVMAXDataFolder
- Users on v7.0.12 should copy the files ending with:
- .4dd
- .4dr
- .4ds (if available)
- Users on v7.5 and higher should copy the files ending with:
- .4dd
- .4dr
- .4DIndx
- .4DSyncData
- .4DSyncHeader
- .Match
- .4ds (if available)
- Paste these files on your external backup location
NOTE: If you are using the DVMAX Attachments/Imaging feature, the DVMAXImagesFolder will also need to be backed up separately/manually.
